Hi, I'd like to start off by saying that I'm a complete beginner at this, I just set out to create the shape with a surgical scalpel from work and some files that I bought. The top piece I made out of maplewood, but figured it would look a bit dull and bought a stabilized block of maplewood burl to work with instead. I kind of made a mess out of the top portion of the piece, anyone got a suggestion on what I could do to get back on track making it look more like a heart? The other sides are going to be ok once I polish them up I think. The picture is just a mockup and there's still more sanding to do on it. (which I'm not sure how to proceed with other than getting very fine grain paper) The gesture of making this is going to be more important to the recipient than the esthetique, but I'd still like to make it look as nice as possible. Even if I have to start all over with a fresh block. Please help. Thanks! I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
